Storage return after large renovation project in St Albans
Today’s move took place at the top of Abbey Mill Lane in St Albans, right next to the grounds of St Albans Cathedral and Ye Olde Fighting Cox Pub!
Watch out for low… arch
In order to access Abbey Mill Lane, we have to drive under the 14th century arch, known as the Abbey Gateway (now part of St Albans school). Our vehicle just fits under….no pressure there then!
This move was a return from storage for a long-standing client. This customer had an on-going renovation project taking several years. During this time, we had packed and moved their furniture and personal effects to storage and held everything securely in our fully containerised facility.
Handling with care
Now that the project was drawing to a close it was time to bring everything back. This meant providing extensive carpet protection within the renovated property and taking extreme care while taking large items of furniture up the freshly painted stairwell.

Location, location, location.
St Albans Cathedral and Abbey Church was probably founded in the 8th century, with Offa II of Mercia said to have founded a double monastery on the site in 793. Much of the current structure and layout dates from the Norman era, with the bell tower being the only 11th-century great crossing tower still standing in England.
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub is first referenced as an alehouse in 1756 when it traded as ‘Three Pigeons’. The name was changed to ‘Fighting Cocks’ around 1800, possibly in reference to the sport of Cock Fighting which was popular at the time.
