Where to start:
Organise as early as possible!
A good starting point is to consider a declutter option. This can make your property more saleable and can make your actual removal more straightforward. Who do you choose as your removal company?
Obviously, personal recommendation goes a long way but looking into companies online can reveal their customer feedback which is very important. Meeting with a company representative is also vital as you can gain a great deal of confidence from asking questions regarding the services available and the knowledge of the representative. Remember to ask your mover about any hidden costs and read the terms and conditions provided by your movers.
Pre-packing
While you are decluttering, you will probably also want to start the packing process. OL Removals and Storage have a wide-ranging supply of packing materials available. These can be delivered to you and at this time we can provide you with packing tips to make the process easy. Always try and source your packing materials from your movers. There are packing materials available online, but they tend to be expensive and poor quality.
Start packing the rooms that you use the least and try and complete one room before you move to the next. Please try and ensure that boxes do not exceed 20 kilos’ in weight!
Packing service
If your budget allows, we strongly recommend that you take up the option of a professional packing service from your movers. The job of packing up a whole property is always more work than you think. Packing is second nature to us, so we are able to complete the job quickly and efficiently leaving you to concentrate on other aspects of the move (see checklist section). Loft/Garage
Make sure that you discuss with your movers the situation regarding the contents of your loft and outside buildings as these can be easily overlooked.

Pets
If you have pets, moving to a new house can be a stressful time for them. Ideally you should try and arrange for them to be elsewhere on the actual move date. If this is not possible then make a safe space for them in one area of the house. Make sure they have food, water and a bed and that they will be disturbed as little as possible.
Your new home
Have you discussed with your movers the vehicular access at your new property? Ensure your mover is aware of any extra floors at the property. If parking restrictions are in place, then it might be necessary for parking suspensions to be arranged. Some councils require 2 weeks’ notice so this will need your attention well in advance.
Overnight bag
As the move approaches, there will be certain items that you will want to hand. The more prepared you are, the less likely that an item will get packed that you may need urgently. In your overnight bag you should pack a change of clothes, toiletries, keys (house and car), first aid kit, any essential tools, towel, baby supplies, pet food.
As well as this you should try and remove before the packing process starts any essential documents; birth certificates, passports, bank statements. Keep valuable and sentimental items on your person so that you do not misplace anything.
Getting into your new home
On the day of the move it is important to maintain contact with your Solicitor to ensure that the purchase of the new property is completed in good time. Once you receive the keys to your new home you can discuss with our team the layout of the property and where you would like the furniture and boxes placed.
